Technical Problems
We did all of our work on macs open to other film and media students so there are a lot of different user areas with their own work on it. This affected us because the macs memory was limited but we had a lot of footage to edit and needed the space to save and edit it. We worked around this by editing what we needed and deleting what we might not need. Also by not recording over the footage just incase we delete something we need on the Macs.
Another problem with IMovie was the crashing, which was directly linked to the Macs memory problem except when this became a problem it seriously affected our work and was impossible to fix. We would be editing and IMovie our video and IMovie would unexpectedly crash and we would lose whatever we did in that session before the last save. It's easier to edit in chunks then save so when it crashed we would lose a lot of work. This could be avoided by saving frequently but either way we would still lose work unless it conveniently crashed straight after we saved our work. It's easy to avoid but impossible to fix, once our work was gone it was gone!
We did try Final Cut Express to change lighting but importing took long and wasted time, we were inexperienced with it so more time was wasted trying to learn how to use it properly and it created large files, which obviously wasn't helping as we already had memory issues. In the end we just stuck to what we know and used IMovie which despite the flaws can still help produce quality work.

Filming at Rough Trade
This would have been a problem as it is the first time that we see Kelly and shows the shop that they meet in. However because the shot was straightforward and easy to frame everything worked out.
Filming inside the shop was fine as we got there early and there were not much people walking around. The manager made clear that they wouldn't turn the music down int he shop, which wasn't a problem because the shot didn't need any diegetic sound anyway. So in conclusion filming the Rough Trade scene was sucessful despite the hiccup in the beginning.

Intertextuality
We used intertextuality in our music video. We related it to the film (500) Days Of Summer in the sense that we played with the narrative order like they have in the film. They use narrative elipses and jump backwards and forwards in time. We jump forward but not backwards as we don't have enough time to risk confusing our audience. We found the exact same typography used in the film and edited it to look as if it was a timer that flicks forward.
This was useful for us as it was an explanation as to why so many things were happening on what -without the elipses - would look like the same day. Also an unexpected change in our performers appearance would have been seen as a continuity error if not for the day changes to provide some explanation.
Also in (500) Days Of Summer there is a role reversal as we would typically expect the female to be the one obsessed with the male who dominates the relationship whereas this is not the case in the film and in our music video the female shows little to no interest in the male.

Re-Shooting Digipak
So because of this we had to go out with our artist and reshoot all the pictures. WE did this in Camden and tried to immitate the old pictures as much as we could because we already had an idea on what to do with them and how to edit them, it was just inconvenient to have to redo everything last minute.
We used the trip to Camden as an advantage as shot the music video performance at the same time as we can only get ahold of our artist for filming once a week because of his busy schedule. Although we were set back by having to re-edit everything worked out as we met our final deadline.

Production Schedule
Jake
Jake Wynne, a director of both music videos, commercials and short films came in. We presented our ideas for our music videos and received feedback and recommendations for improvement. We told him or general idea and showed him our animaniac (posted on this blog). He generally liked the idea however we were going to have a twist at the end of our narrative showing the female character possibly liking him and we were also going to play the narrative in a non linear way, jumping backwards and forwards in time. Jake recommended that we either have the twist at the end or play with the narrative. Because there was a lot going on in the video already he said to pick one of them.

Rough digipak ideas
- The top drawing on the left hand side is a silhouette of the artist, the reason we decide to use this because we want to create a sense of loneliness to related to the genre of his song to indicated sadness to the audiences.
- The top middle drawing is where the CD will be place, the CD will have the artist name printed on, which is easy for the audience notice is his CD.
