Treatment Ideas

Idea number 2
(Stalker)

Content

The main idea of the video is a stalking boy in love with a girl he met in HMV. He will stalk her throughout the story in different ways, including purposely bumping into her in the street and going to her house. The song challenges the expectations of the audience as the title of the song is "Do You Call This Love?" and spectators would expect the answer to be yes, meaning the music video will be about a typical couple in love, whereas we will make the answer - no and play with the expectations and conventions of this genre.

The video will be contradicting, based on narrative, performance with aspects of intertextuality. We will have our artist, Adam Wilson Hunter playing his guitar in the background of random shots to show the spectators who he is, which would help to establish him as an artist as he is new.

We will have a twist at the end of the narrative, in which we see the stalking boy being dragged away and we see that the girl still has something that he gave her in the beginning.

Purpose

This video will challenge the conventions and expected narrative of the pop/country music genre. We will challenge the typical objectification aspect by having the male stalk the female. This is empowering to females as she has the power in the narrative.

Genre

"Do You Call This Love?"
Pop. soft rock, country, contradicting, narrative, performance

Style and form

Our text will bear resemblance to (500) Days of Summer (2009, Marc Webb) in the sense that we will have narrative elipses, jumping backward and forward in time, giving us a non-linear narrative. The video will be amplified, as we will be slightly exagerrating the issue of love.

Audience

This will be aimed at both men age women aged 20-30 and also teenagers ages 14-19.
Generaly people who could relate to the song or video, people in the awkward teen stage of discovering "love" and also older people who may have had some experiences with stalkers, stalking or can relate to the general lyrics.

Representation

The artists costume will represent the characters. When we are focussing on the male "stalker" character our artist will be seen wearing white, to represent the boys innocence. When the girl is highlighted he will be wearing black. Black can be see the colour of authority or seriousness, which will be the colour to represent the female as she has the power in this situation.
The colour contrast will represent the conflict and contrast in the different sides of the story.
